So I’ve decided to bring in back-up support for this blog post: meet Christie Inge and Mara Glatzel. They’re hosting a teleclass on Monday, November 26th titled: “Enjoy Your Holidays Without Losing Your Shit.” I thought I’d steal them for a preview…
Best insights from our 30-minute interview (with some additional input from moi):
1. Assume hanging out with your family in tight quarters with tons of baked goods lying around will be triggering. Be prepared, and spend a little extra time on your personal self-care activities (running, yoga, being in your room alone) around these kinds of events. Mara and Christie both suggest doing whatever it is that grounds you in high volume over the holidays.
2. Don’t let your family be assholes (I’m paraphrasing here). Mara and Christie are both big advocates of setting boundaries when the family criticism gets too much to handle. This is yet another kind of “preventative care” when it comes to not losing it over the holidays. (I know this is easier said than done; for more info on boundaries, check out their teleclass – I get the feeling this will come up in more detail).
3. Mara says, “If you’re not enjoying it, what’s the point?” (tweet it!) Holidays are supposed to be FUN, so don’t stress yourself out making everything perfect or everyone happy. And for God’s Sakes, DON’T FREAK OUT IF YOU EAT TOO MUCH (because you probably will, and you should just own that unless you want to hate yourself for the next week and a half). Relax, man. It’s a party at the end of the day.
Lastly, if you end up eating like, so much you want to die, just go sleep it off and pretend it never happened. NO REMORSE & NO APOLOGIES (they make you eat more).
